Important Things for You to Consider:

It is important that you consider what features you wish to include when you build your testing system. For example:

  • How important is it to be able to create your own tests, by selecting from a question databank those questions that exactly match a training, education, or screening program for a particular job or course?
  • Do you need to know how a person arrived at a particular response? For example, do you wish to see what mouse clicks or keystrokes were made to arrive at the answer?
  • Do you feel it's important to have the capability to randomize the questions in a test?
  • Do you want to be able to insert comments, beside the incorrect answers when they appear in the test result report? This could be used, for example, to direct the student to training resources as a training plan, for remedial skills upgrade -(CBT/CDROM), on questions that they missed.
  • How about the ability to combine questions from each of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access test question databanks, to create a single Microsoft Office test, that quickly assesses a candidate on several applications at once?
  • Is it important that test candidates have the ability to go back at the end of a test to re-try questions that they may have skipped?
  • Do you want to be able to set a timer for test duration, if so should the candidate see the clock?
  • Do you wish to pre-set the number of "tries" the applicant makes at the answer, before the program moves them on to the next question?
  • Adaptive tests change dynamically as a test taker answers each question. Someone answering a difficult question correctly will move on to a more difficult question while someone answering a question incorrectly will be presented with an easier question. In this way, the test quickly zeroes in on a candidate's skill level in the fewest possible questions and the shortest possible time. Would this be a required element in your test system?
  • Would you want to be able to add your own questions to modify an existing test, or create a brand new test with your own questions?
  • All software tests are performance based. This means that rather than answering multiple choice or other types of questions, examinees are instead provided with an interactive simulation of the software products and asked to perform functions as if they were using the real software. An examinee's ability to perform functions correctly will determine whether he or she answers questions correctly or incorrectly.
